ICJ – Welcoming word

The International Court of Justice is a judicial organ in United Nations, which settles legal disputes submitted to it by states and provides advisory opinions on legal questions submitted to it by accordingly authorized international branches, agencies, and the UN General Assembly. Seated in the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands, with the current president Ronny Abraham, is one of the most important committees in the world as well as in Model United Nations debates. It’s highly connected with UNSC meaning that in order to enforce a resolution both ICJ and UNSC have to assent.

Hi, my name is Hania, and I’m very excited to chair this year’s International Court of Justice committee. This year’s topic is of particular interest to me as U.S hegemony is a very controversial and important topic in the current day. I believe that international cooperation is the way to achieve equitability as well as a much needed united front especially in a time of such conflict and dissent. Although this is my first time presiding over a committee, I’m going to work hard to help make this year’s ICJ sessions successful and fruitful. Travelling and living in different countries has helped me gain a profound interest in various cultures and has given me the desire to constantly experience new ones as well… See you in November!

I’m Alicja Łysik, but don’t call me that. Call me Ala. I like good coffee and really bad jokes. I’m enrolled in IB in Wroclaw and I just wish I could travel the world so I could present my terrible dancing skills and by that make people feel better about themselves.

I believe in sharing, no matter what. It can be time, knowledge, skills or anything else. I believe that whenever we have a chance it is our responsibility to share with others. Sharing makes world a better place. I also believe in action. I think that we, as people, have a power to change the world if we want to and I believe that we should. In order to do that, we need to learn to recognize issues that the world is facing. That is the reason why I decided to be a chair of International Court of Justice. I will try my best to make your experience with this committee fruitful and worth remembering.
